Student life can be extremely overwhelming, especially with dealing with your coursework, meeting new friends, and planning your career. Sometimes that buildup of constant worry can cause an immense amount of stress, fatigue, anxiety or depression, and it is just not possible to deal with those tough times alone. Problems can build up and can cause you to lose sleep, which leads to little or no focus on homework, and could cause you to become depressed. As a counsellor and former post-secondary teacher, I understand the difficulties student life can be for you. Realize that you don’t have to deal with these struggles alone. I am here to listen and support. I take your issues seriously and work with you to find the right outcome.  

 

You don't need to know exactly what's bothering you when you talk with me. It's perfectly OK just to reach out because you're feeling bad or not doing as well in school as you'd like. It's my job to help you figure out what's going on. In fact, it's often better to reach out as soon as you know something's up, even if you don't know what the trouble is. Chances are you'll be able to solve a problem faster when you have the skills and resources behind you. 

 

Our meeting times are flexible depending on the issue. Some concerns can be dealt with in a one-time meeting. Others may require regular meetings for a while. It all depends on the topic at hand and the plan that you and I decide on.

When meeting with students, I primarily use a strengths-based, solution-focused therapy model. This model helps work towards thriving within the areas of your life where you have identified concern. My hope is to tap into your innate strengths and resilience to work towards the change necessary for you to thrive. We can work together with all sorts of tips and supports on solving problems and making good decisions. If you are struggling with issues that are beyond my expertise, I can also refer you to outside resources like substance abuse treatment centres, professional therapists and even health clinics.
